Starting pre op diet

So I had my pre op appointment today and my surgeon told me to start my pre op liquid diet tomorrow. This is a bummer because I have one of the stricter ones. We are allowed 4 protein shakes a day plus as many clear liquids (chicken broth, crystal light, etc.) we want. This is going to be a bummer for valentines day because there will be tons of crap at work. My husband is taking me out tonight to the place he was going to take me on valentines day.

None of my friends really know about this surgery, so I'm glad I can come here and get support, because I will need it for sure.

We have similar pre-op diets!  The only difference is I'm allowed up to 5 shakes a day.  Oooh, aaah ;)   I'll be on my pre-op diet for my birthday, which is a bummer, but I'm trying to think of the surgery as the best birthday present ever!  (And, like you, I've rescheduled my dinner celebration.)

Super exciting that you're so close!!

Oh and I forgot to add, my info that I was given says to look for protein shakes with at least 22 g of protein, and the only one I coud find was Boost. I got the milk chocolate ones. Has anyone ever tried them? I have only had the slim fast ones and those have 15g of protein.

Do they have to be ready to drink shakes?  I use this powder -- http://www.amazon.com/Optimum-Nutrition-Standard-Double-Chocolate/dp/B000QSNYGI/ -- with unsweetened original almond milk and LOVE them.  Super tasty.

You've got to be really careful with the amounts of sugars in a lot of the grocery store ready to drink shakes.  I can find Premier Protein shakes at my grocery store and those have really great numbers.  (Although they're also cheaper from Amazon.)

The Boost shakes seem to be 15 grams of protein in 240 calories.  For me, that would be way too low.  I'm supposed to get at least 1 gram of protein for every 10 calories, so these shakes would need to have 24 grams of protein at 240 calories, or 15 grams of protein for 150 calories.

Thanks for your responses. I actually meant to say I bought Ensure- I dont know why I thought of Boost. It's been a long day lol. And they do not have to be ready to drink so I will look at the link you posted. Thank you so much. How long do you have to be on your liquid diet?

My actual pre-op diet started on March 3rd, but I started replacing Breakfast and Lunch with shakes many weeks ago to get a jump on things!

The Ensure High Protein doesn't seem too bad.  25 grams of protein in 210 calories.

Go to a costco to get premier RTD protein shakes. They have 30 grams of protein and 160 calories. Boost/Ensure have too many carbs for me now that I am post-op. I try to keep my carbs under 20 per day.
