4 years out. Where do I find the veterans, back on track for VSG?

There are a bunch of successful VSG vets here. Ask whatever questions you need with a shoutout to the VETS in your subject line and you'll get some great responses. The "back on track" forum doesn't get as much traffic from those who have been super successful, for obvious reasons. They don't need to get back on track!

Best of luck to you!

What is it you need help with?

The basics are the same as when you had surgery:

1. Focus on getting protein in.  For simplicity, target 100g/day. Do this first for every meal.

2. Focus on getting water in, for simplicity, target 100 oz / day (yes that's a lot). Don't drink 20-30 min before or after a meal to get the most satiety effect from the protein

3. After 1 & 2 - get some colorful vegetables in.

4. avoid sugar and grain.

5. Don't worry AT ALL about a "balanced diet" while you're in weight-loss mode.  It's - hopefully - a short term thing

6. If you can exercise, do so, but be aware that a lot of exercise this far past surgery may increase your hunger level... you may put on muscle mass as well - if you Dr. is ONLY going by the scale, you may be frustrated as you put on muscle, while dropping fat.  If you are urgent about losing "weight" as opposed to fat, which is preferred, keep your exercise simple - like walking... but do some - it has massive health benefits.  Do some light resistance exercise to maintain your muscles while you lose.

7. Try to keep total calories/day under 800.

Those are the basics from post-surgery that I boiled everything down to.  #6 I disagree with in general - I'd prefer to see more exercise, especially resistance, but if you're goal is pure weight loss to acheive a very short-term goal, you should go lightly there.

Hope that helps.

Let me know how else I can help!

Tom

Thanks for the info and support. Feeling pretty low, but trying to keep up exercise, meal plan and NOT bingeing. So far WINNING!
