I am pre-op (3/7) but wanted to know if anyone could answer this question.  I know that the sleeve needs time to heal, and once you're cleared, you can start going back to the gym, but I lift massive amounts of weight to stay strong for my job.  My definition of massive is biased, I will admit that, but I think it's pretty good for a girl.  Anyway, the posts that I have seen have only mentioned up to around 30 lbs.  I currently work out with 750 lbs on the leg press, I squat 550 lbs, bench press around 180 lbs, calf extensions are at 350 lbs, and I dead-lift around 400 lbs.  I've maxed almost all the machines at the judgement free zone gym and have had to move to the free weights to pile more on.   Should I give myself a longer recovery time since I lift heavy?  I know we are not doctors, but I would just like your opinion. Thank you so much.

I won't pretend to be able to answer your question, but I have to say that's pretty cool.  Remind me never to **** you off.

You are definitely going to have to wait at least the six weeks before you go back to your regiment.  Make sure you get your doctors clearance.  I was told to not lift anything over 10 lbs for the first six weeks. And after 6 weeks off your regiment you'll probably want to ease back into it.

and might I say....you go girl!

I do strength training. I am in my 50's and feel that it is of great benefit. My experience is that I had to wait 6 weeks post surgery to lift weights. I did do some arm work with low weights making sure that my core was not being used. I was cleared at 6 weeks but any ab work needed to be done gradually. I did get some minor pain at a couple of in the incision sites. I would suggest that you work with the machines after surgery so that you can isolate the muscle group. You need to give your core time to heal. I am 12 weeks out and can do alot of weight also.  Be patient and remember to listen to your body. If you rush too fast you can hurt yourself. I do a treadmill work and that gives my legs a good workout. Increase the incline and it does a good job on your legs. I get that you want to be strong but healing comes first!
