Scared to Eat After Food Poisoning :(

I have food poisoning :( I ate some leftover seafood for lunch yesterday, felt a little queasy all afternoon and had a bit of a headache, and then HOLY MOLEY. I was horribly sick last night. This was the first time that I've vomited since surgery, and it is a VERY different experience than pre op! I won't go into the gore, but I have been running to the bathroom non stop since about 10 pm last night. I've thrown my plan out the window today and have been nursing a slightly watered-down Sprite all day... It seems to be the only thing that calms the nausea. I will surely regret the sugar content when I'm better and the carb cravings slam me, but it's better than taking in NO calories. I tried to get in a bland protein bar earlier, but it was NOT happening... I'm now sitting heres staring at a bowl of chicken broth with complete disdain :(

The (ONLY) silver lining in all of this is that I'm down 4 pounds overnight! It reminds me of a quote from the movie 'The Devil Wears Prada'... "I'm just one stomach flu from my goal weight!" I'm kidding of course... I wouldn't wish this on my arch nemesis!

I'm going to have to get in real food tomorrow... Sadly, I feel like I did immediately post op when everything edible turned my stomach at the thought... That and I can no longer trust a fart!

Happy Tuesday, VSGers. Here's hoping that yours has been better than mine!!!

Maybe try some G2 to get in some electrolytes you have lost. Sorry to hear about your tummy. I do know it is totally different from before I had surgery. Also I keep a list of things that don;t agree with me, just in case I forget, lol.

Feel better soon.

That's a good idea. I've been so focused on calming the nausea that I hadn't really thought about G2. Good call. Thanks!!

I had salmonella once from chicken and it was such a horrible experience.  I was told, and this was before the google days so you can double check, that salmonella grows the more you feed it. I was told to only drink unsweetened liquids for 3-4 days until my body could clear the bacteria completely.  It worked.  Before that it kept coming back every time I felt better and could get something down.  I would do a little reading and see if seafood causes the same problem.

If you have to go 3-4 days with just liquids it's not going to hurt you in the long run...the vomiting and diarrhea on the other hand is going to dehydrate you.  I know you know what to watch for...head in to the hospital if you are feeling dehydrated.

Food poisoning sucks! Praying you feel better soon.

This has been truly miserable... At one point last night, I was lying on the bathroom floor trying not to faint. My hands and arms were tingling, too. I was seriously freaked out. If it hadn't gotten better immediately after I vomited, I was about to get my mom to take me to the ER.

I will do some reading for sure. The last thing I want to do is feed this thing!

TMI...I had Norwalk last year and got so sick I just climbed in the tub.  I totally get you ;)

I say watered down G2 would be your best bet for hydration.  Maybe ginger tea if you can get it down.  You can probably treat the symptoms with immodium and Gravol (anti-nausea medication)

If it is food poisoning, some doctors don't recommend Imodium or anti emetics. The vomiting and diarrhea is your body's way of expelling the bad bacteria. I would always call a doctor first,  even if the treatment seems benign.
