Newbie food question

I am in the middle of my 6 month "diet and exercise" for insurance so for the meantime I'm trying to learn all I can about VSG and beyond. I keep reading about people only being able to eat cottage cheese or yogurt. I'm kinda nervous...I'm not a fan of either of these foods. I've never liked them.  At what stage is the "cottage cheese and yogurt" diet and are there other options during this stage??

I hate cottage cheese.  It's never been a part of my diet and I doubt that it ever will be.

I'm not sure where you're reading that cottage cheese and yogurt are the only things you can eat at any stage after VSG.  But they certainly aren't your only options.  Greek yogurt is very high in protein and there are some amazing flavors out there.  Try Dannon Fit and Light Cherry Chocolate Greek yogurt and tell me if that doesn't make your toes curl.

Love the dannon greek blends! The strawberry cheesecake, banana cream, raspberry chocolate. Yum!

I'm not a fan of either of those things either.  Luckily, there are always other options on my nutrition lists!

You might be talking about the pureed stage. I started that stage 2 days post op and it lasted until week 2. I'm not a fan of cottage cheese either, can't stand the smell. I love greek yogurt and started to love it even more after my surgery, actually. I love dannon light and fit as well, right now my favorite flavor is banana cream. Also during that stage, I ate a lot of soup, if it had chunks I would just stick it in the blender and puree it. Most soups actually tasted pretty good that way.

I ate lots of soups with added meat puréed into it in the purée stage. I also puréed chicken & ham salads (added some broth to help thin it out), fat free refried beans with cheese & Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. You have choices. Cottage cheese and Greek yogurt are just easy and pack a good protein punch.
