Dating?

Any singles out there that can share how you handled dating after VSG? People always mention my portion size and I don't want to share my business too soon! Help me, please!

I'm just getting back out there.  I have had drinks / coffee with a couple of people, but haven't had dinner yet.  I'm worried about the same thing.  I definitely do not plan to share until I feel comfortable / trust someone.  I may just say I have been watching what I eat, and my appetite has shrunk as a result?  Or that I just really enjoy the smaller portions b/c I'm watching my weight.

Getting back to dating is a roller coaster!

It is a crazy ride! I haven't gone out with anyone yet, but have a potential and am freaking out a little. It will be my first date since my divorce 18 months ago.

I'm in a similar situation.  Divorced 2 years.  I actually went speed dating a couple of weeks ago - that was interesting.  I am kind of nervous about committing to an entire meal with someone I don't know, so I have been doing (or have done) a coffee and a walk.  This was less stressful.  I'm also planning to meet someone for a drink on Monday -- I'm not sure how to handle that b/c I have not had any alcohol since surgery.  I'm actually going rigth after my support group meeting, so I may ask the group for advice.

I had surgery two years ago and what I tell them is I am just eating healthier and then i change the subject. I figure they don't need to know everything right away.

Meeting for drinks... Write a note on a piece of paper so you can pass it to bartender/waitress that says, "water, ice, stir stick and garnish", when you order, say "i brought the recipe since its an old drink". Or you can say that your Dr just put you on meds that make you throw up if you drink alcohol & order water.

For the "dinner", ask him to meet mid afternoon/early eve and only order appetizer. Tell him you're stopping by friends house later & they always expect you to eat something there.  Just a couple of ideas.

Just say that is how you manage your figure and give a little wink with a smile.  that should end the questioning.

Not sure how far out you are, but for me personally I just tell people straight out. I figure if they can't handle the fact that I've made a significant life change that is going to be my lifestyle for ever, then they don't deserve to know anything else about me. Good luck!

If I don't want to get into a conversation I tell people "I've had stomach surgery and this is all I can eat at one time."  I don't say "weight loss or bariatric".  That conversation can come later.  If he asks say "it's a long story for another day" and change the subject.  Things are only a big deal if you make them one.

Perhaps you could work to choose dates that don't involve restaurants or bars?  Try out other activities instead!
