Omg today is day 1 technically of my pre-op water and yogurt only diet. I was told DR. Ponce only requires 3 days of this. However I hate yogurt!!! I bought the greek yogurt but it is soo hard to be eating this only. I don't mind drinking only water. I already snuck an oreo cookie and thats because I feel extra tired and lightheaded as yesterday i had water and yogurt only. Prior to this I was eating mostly chicken, veggies  and salads. I have school for the next 2 days and I have 0 energy. What can  I do?? Help!!!

My preop was protein shakes (sugar free) and clear liquids.

I think a protein shake is a decent substitute for yogurt.

I think one of the reasons Dr. Ponce wants people on a yogurt diet before surgery is to help build up healthy probiotics in the gut, so I don't think a protein shake would be a good substitute.

To the OP, I know it isn't fun -- buy some different brands and flavors of yogurt to try out, hopefully you will find something you can tolerate. And if you weren't specifically told to eat Greek yogurt, try regular yogurt -- many people find it much more palatable. If all else fails, just bear down and tell yourself its only a few days. If you find yourself feeling weak and lightheaded, eat more yogurt, not Oreos!

There is no justification for "sneaking an Oreo cookie".  So "extra tired" and "lightheaded" are just rationalizations.

I'd be the 1st to say an all yogurt and water diet seems extreme, but I'd also be concerned with how easily you caved and went the cooie route.

I can think of hundreds of other ways to go, which granted might be outside the water and yogurt route, that would've been better choices than an orea cookie.

The games your mind will play on you the first couple of weeks after surgery will be tough.  You need to understand your plan for each day and stick to it.

How about Kefir?  Or mixing yogurt into a protein shake so that you still get the probiotics?

yogurt and water does seem extreme, you should really talk with you surgeon, maybe a nutritionist too, low blood sugar is not something to mess with, but you know a cookie is a no-no, how about those activia yogurt shakes with the probiotics in it?, you can get a little sweetness and still have yogurt.
