Veggies

About how long after your sleeve did you start eating raw veggies?  I had some carrots, lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers without the skin, two months out.  I chewed the very well and didn't have any problems.

Do the veterans think it's too soon to be eating a few raw veggies?

I didn't have room for anything besides protein for the first three months or so.  I added cooked veggies next and only added raw veggies closer tot the five month mark.  (I think, it's been almost five years, so I might be off a bit).

Thank you Elina!

i was out of town and probably didn't eat enough protein.  I think I'll continue to only include the cooked veggies.  Good reminder to get the protein in first!

My plan does not allow raw veggies until 6 months.  Like Elina, I only ate protein the first 3 months.  At 5 months out, I might eat cooked veggies, if I have room after protein.

I foolishly ate raw red pepper (whihc I love, especially with hummus) two months out and my sleeve let me know it was waaaaay too soon.  It hurt more than right after surgery.  I am 4 months out now and I can eat raw veggies, but for peppers, carrots and cukes I chew chew chew before I swallow.

I think I started eating some raw veggies at about two and half months out.  I make sure to only have them after I have my protein because they take up room!  It is odd, but at restaurants, I eat salad second - usssually it is because we are sharing.  Or if I order a salad, I eat they protein in first.

i love carrots and sometimes I just need the crunch!

My program  allow lettuce and tomatoes fairly early, but no other raw veggies until 3 months post op.   I think that was pretty conservative. I never had any trouble with veggies, or other foods, for that matter!

Best of luck,

Carol

I was told I could start trying them around 3 months out. It is probably about the time that even I had any room for them. Even if it was a bite or two I was so happy to be able to have them again. I am a hardcore veggie lover.

Now, although still early out, I have veggies of some kind with at least one meal a day if not all of them. It still is not much, though.

I am sooooo glad you asked this question.  I love raw veggies, and I wondered if I'd ever get to eat any again, if I kept up with the protein guidelines...how would I ever have the room??

What about raw fruits?  How far out before we can get those in?
