Five months ago I thought this time would never be knocking on my door!  I am so very excited!  I have four appointments this month.  My six month appointment, my EGD follow up, my pre op, and my last pre op dietician visit!!I have my protein shakes for my pre op - I get to do three weeks of that fun stuff!!  Any pointers or advice for this time coming up on my surgery is welcome!

It's a wonderful feeling, isn't it? My best advice is to sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk! :)

Any other necessities other than chapstick that I should plan to have with me?

Make sure you have a variety of protein shakes and drinks and broth and vitamins at home for when you come back from surgery, so you don't have to worry about going to the grocery store.

Work out and build some muscle before surgery--I don't know how much you weigh, but the first few days of moving around are difficult because it hurts to contract the abdomen.  I'm glad I had a lot of upper body strength to help pull me out of bed.

If you don't typically wear nightgowns, I'd suggest getting a cheap one to wear around the house when you get back from surgery, since it can be uncomfortable to have anything, like the waistband of pants, rub against your incisions.

Thanks Scorpio!  I weigh 250 and having the strength to move myself around will be helpful!  I will have to invest in a nightgown.

Congrats!!  Good luck with all the remaining appointments.

Pre-op, before my actual official diet, I worked on replacing most breakfasts and lunches with shakes to prepare and try to lose some weight.  It worked well for me and I'm glad I did it.

I also found a therapist that I click with since so many people recommend this to help and I think it's a really good point.  I feel like I'm going to have a lot of mental hurdles to overcome during this journey and having a therapist that can help me has already been useful.  So that might be something to work on doing!
