Pros and Cons hearing stories of infections, other problems. Scared what to do It. I want the sleeve to be healthy and fit. but don't want any problems. Scared. Sugar is high and need to get It under control. other diets in the past just don't work. I hit a certain number and I stall forever!

I was diagnosed with cancer prior to surgery, and struggled with near constant skin infections for a while (skin cancer).  One thing that was very clear cut was that after surgery and my diet improved dramatically nutrtionally- the skin infections stopped.  I stopped getting sick, stopped getting colds... huge improvement.  I was also diabetic preop, and no issues post op- although my blood sugar would go low for the first couple months until I got used to how I needed to eat to keep that at bay. My health has dramatically improved on all fronts- so go for it!

The rate of complications post-op is actually pretty low; to a large degree, it depends on the surgeon's level of skill and experience.  Pick one who has a proven track record.

If you have this (or any) surgery, yes, you might have problems afterwards.  If you don't have this surgery, you will continue to have the problems you already have (high sugar) and will likely develop others.

Personally, I've had absolutely no problems, complications, or negative side effects from the surgery.  I'm a year post op and have zero regrets.

That is very true I have to look at all the problems I can have if I don't do this! Which is too many to count and I have a wonderful husband and two amazing kids.

While I didn't have cancer, I was seriously ill for several years prior to surgery and my immune system was shot from the aggressive pharmaceutical plan I had to be on in order to survive.  I was like Humpty Dumpty and had to be put back together again piece by piece (or on this case illness by illness).  It took 7 specialists and 5 years to get me stable enough to persue VSG surgery.  Best thing I ever did!  My life has improved 100 fold.  I have been off diabetes medication since day of surgery.  My risk of having a stroke is now less than 1%.  Several other health areas are improving significantly. I've gotten my life back.  :)

I just got clearance from my cancer doctor too.   Was ready for WLS 5 years ago and then they discovered breast cancer.  Had to wait 5 years cancer free before they would do the surgery.  Now am going to have it in July or August (God willing).  I am scared too, but you hear that being overweight is a contributer to getting cancer and we don't want that to come back.  Now ready for a healthier life.  We will be on the losers bench together!!
