Before my VSG, I was consulting with my cancer team and they want me to have my ovaries removed. I had a hysterectomy in 2005 due to uterine cancer. The ovary removal would be preventative.  They also mentioned a double mastectomy as preventative since I also had breast cancer in '05 & '07. Genetic testing revealed that I'm at high risk for ovarian and breast cancer. I also know that my chances of needing my gal bladder out has increased significantly due to current & future weight loss.  I was thinking about doing the ovaries in the fall, that way the hot flashes might help to keep me warm, and waiting till I hit maintenance for the boobs, so it would be a covered reconstruction BL/BA and letting the gal bladder fall where it may. Any ideas?

I am so sorry that you have had to go through all of that.  I think you are smart for going ahead with preventative measures :). As for when, I think you should do what feels best.  Talk it over with your medical team.  I am sure they will have opinions.  Is it possible to do certain surgeries at the same time?  Like gallbladder and ovaries?  Or is that too much?

Good point, I'll ask. Not sure if they will touch the GB if it is still good.

Probably not....I had a family history ( both sisters and all my aunts had theirs out) and GB pain, and they still wouldn't take mine until they saw the stones on the ultrasound.  It's a great idea to combine where possible, though.

No advice on the timing, but good luck :)

I had my ovaries and tubes removed at the same time as my VSG - preventative as well for me as well since I had colon cancer. I also has a paraovarian cyst so the time was perfect to kill two birds.

The idea for your boobs sounds smart.   Get your insurance to pay for the plastics since it will be "reconstructive."

I can't say that I've had any hot flashes.  In fact I'm freezing all the time, a sensation I'm completely unfamiliar with.

Those are some tough decisions to make.  But you're one smart cookie and I'm sure you'll make the best choices for you.
