VSG on 03/13/14

I've heard people say that the sleeve is everything they were promised the lap band would be.  So that seems pretty positive to me :)  Good luck!

Revision on 05/08/13

I had the band for the worst 7 years of my life and revised to a sleeve a little less than a year ago.  I vomited the day of surgery because of the narcotics, but vomited almost once a week the 7 years before.  May 9, 2014, I'll celebrate a whole year of not having to look for the bathroom every time I enter a restaurant, and I'll be upchuck free one year!

Talk to your surgeon, or several surgeons if you're looking for one.  VSG is a good choice, but not for everyone.  RNY is also a good choice; my surgeon gave me the risks and benefits of both and let me decide.

Keep in mind that while the physical issues go away, the mental challenges remain the same.  Ya gotta get your head in the game and keep it there to be successful no what surgery you choose!

I was in a very dark place during the time I had my band.  I was afraid to eat....I was very depressed.  I have just read that VSG is much easier on the body with less complications.  I am just a little gun shy because of all of the issues I had with the band.  Thanks for your input.

Take your time to read about the good and the bad. Consult with as many surgeons as you need to feel comfortable about having a second surgery or not. I'd be extra cautious too if I already had a bad experience with WLS.

Surgery will be hopefully in October or November 2014, with Dr. Megan Gilmore
