Pre-op question

I'm wondering if I should go off birth control the month before surgery? My gyn said this may reduce the risk of blood clots (this is a big fear of mine because I almost lost someone close to me to a pulmonary embolism a couple years ago). Just wondering what you girls did or if it's not of concern?

Be sure to ask your surgeon about it. Mine wanted me off of it for several weeks before hand. If you do stop taking it, BE SURE to use multiple alternate methods. You will be Fertile Myrtle for several months after surgery. When we lose weight rapidly, hormones (which are stored in fat cells) flood our systems leaving us VERY VERY VERY fertile.

Talk to your surgeon.  I was given blood thinners by injection in the hospital until I was released.  Plus I got to wear these funky blow up booties to help avoid clots.  Going off may not be necessary.  Definitely a call to your surgeons office with tell you how he wants to deal with it.

Talk to your surgeon.  I'm on the pill and didn't have to go off it before surgery.
