Anything shocking??

Right after my VSG I had hardly any pain at all, I was given liquid pain med & only took it once.  Be sure you stick to completely clear/water only for the 1st 2-3 days or you will most likely throw up.  I am amazed that the weight is coming off - yes I had surgery so it would but I've tried to lose many times during my life & NEVER had this wonderful kind of progress.  Don't invest much on down size clothes because you won't wear them long.  I have several sizes of things except for shirts & work out clothes as my weight has been up & down my entire life.  I'm amazed at how fast jeans are getting too big - LOVE it.  I'm amazed that I feel better now than I have in years.  Something that shocked me that's happened 2x so far once each month...even though I've had a complete hysterectomy with no lady parts other than my cervix, as my weight is dropping my hormones are dropping too & I'm having periods complete with mood swings, cravings-I combat these with protein shakes, acne-the works.  My gyn says the lining of my cervix bleeds each month & possibly will happen on a monthly basis for who knows how long.  WEIRD, shocking, TMI but shocking eh?  I'm amazed at the little things; big to me little to someone who's never had a weight problem, I can wear a belt, no necklace chain extenders, wear normal shoes, fit comfortably in the tub...just so many amazing things happen & I notice them every day.  Good Luck on your journey- it is an awesome tool, you have to do the work to make it work but without the sleeve I'd still be a miserable couch bum hermit crab.

Here is what shocked me:

  • how horrible I felt for the first couple of days after surgery.  I was exhausted and nauseous.  after day 4 it was easy, but the first few days were very rough.  I was lucky that my mom came and stayed with me.
  • How quickly I became stronger and was able to do new things
  • That my body could really truly become as small as I think it will -- I'm past where I thought I would realistically get, and I am still going -- and aside from the head stuff, it isn't that hard!
  • that I could truly be satisfied on less than 200 calories for a meal :)

My husband was completely against me going through surgery- he was terrified.  I didn't expect him to 3 days post op clear the house of all crap food and go on my diet with me, and my children throwing themselves 100% behind me. Going into it I made a decision that my challenges with weight would not drag my family members into the changes that I needed to make, and I was especially sensitive about projecting my weight issues onto my children.  The level of support I recieved and continue to recieve is heartwarming. Oh, and my husband lost 100 pounds.

I think that's amazing! I read your signature at the bottom. Excuse me since I'm still new to most of this, but your shoe size changed?!? I would've never have thought that was a possibility...

Yes, and it is in fact pretty darn common.  My shoe size just dropped again too- I need to update my signature.  I can now wear a size 10 in a flat for some brands. So much easier to find!
