Is my pinched nerve "waking up"?

So about six years ago I got really, really sick for about six weeks...I'm talking 103 degree fevers, sleeping 18 hours a day, having explosive diarrhea sick. It was bad. I ended up spending eight days in the hospital. I had a CMV infection and its when I found out I had Celiac's Disease. During that time, I also gained about 30 lbs of water weight...because of my fever I was thirsty all the time, but the water I was drinking wasn't leaving my body. Around the time I was admitted to the hospital, I lost feeling in my left upper thigh. It just felt tingly and when the doctor poked it with something sharp I didn't feel it. However, sometimes at night I would have these shooting pains that would wake me up and were awful. By the time I was released from the hospital it was just numb all the time. My PCP said it was a pinched nerve from the rapid weight gain and would probably "wake up" in a few months. Well, it never work up and my upper thigh has been numb for six years.

Now, I'm suddenly getting the same shooting pains in my leg. And when there aren't shooting pains, its kind of achy all the time. I'm thinking that now that I've lost all this weight, my nerve might be waking up finally. The problem is, it kind of hurts and bothers me when I exersice. My boyfriend wants me to tell the chiro about it. Sidebar: I HATE that I go to a chiro, but after surgery I started getting awful headaches related to my neck and having it adjusted really seems to help them. But what should or can I do to help it? Obviously, I would ideally like to have feeling in my leg again, but at this point I would just take making the pain stop. Is this something for my PCP (who was little help last time I mentioned it) or is there some sort of specialist I can see?

What about a physiotherapist as opposed to chiropractor? They would give you exercises and treatments like ultrasound to help rehab your thigh. Plus exercises for home.

Thanks, that's a great idea. Will I have to be referred by my PCP?

Not sure what the problem is with a chiro many people use them but you do have to find one who isn't just out to make a buck and keep you coming back all the time. Also a neurologist might be helpful they deal with nerves.

I would talk to an orthopedist or a neurologist.
