Surgery Gas

I read a post awhile back from someone whose surgeon removed much of the gas that is used during surgery.  I'm wondering how common this is. I don't want to be laughed out of the office when I ask my surgeon if he can do that for me!  Anyone else have the gas removed before closing up?

I'd imagine that every surgeon removes as much gas as possible before closing you back up?  It wouldn't make sense otherwise.
