post op diets

I have been really surprised to hear how different people's pre-op and post-op diets are. My doctor had me on full liquids by day 5 and soft foods by day 7. I am only allowed 2 tablespoons of food at a "meal" right now though.  I also still have three protein shakes a day. I see other people are on clear liquids for four weeks. Yikes!

Anyway, I love my two tablespoons of food so much it scares me a little. I'm supposed to make that little bit of food last for 30 minutes, and so I savor every tiny speck of it. Each time I try something new it's like my taste buds are so excited. Tonight for supper I am having 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and one melba toast cracker. It is soooo good. I just hope I don't end up too in love with food. That's kind of why I am in this mess to begin with. Of course, before surgery I ate a lot, lot faster and didn't take the time to savor each bite so much.

I was on clear liquids for the first 2 days after surgery, and then I did pureed food until week 3, and then I did soft protein until about 2 months post op, after which I could start with more dense foods.

It sounds like you are following your program and doing things correctly. That said, I don't think you should feel bad that you are enjoying your food!  I think it's great!
