What should I take to the hospital?
I had a 2 night hospital stay and I brought:
my favorite pillow (in a colored pillowcase so it is obviously NOT a hospital one)
yoga pants
tank top
cardigan
underwear
feminine products - my period showed up the day of surgery
toothbrush, razor, deodorant, shampoo, lotion, lip balm, hairbrush
magazines and my iPad
I hate hospital gowns, so I changed into my own clothes as soon as they let me.

I second comfortable clothes and add walking shoes. My hospital let me change when I got out of recovery.

I brought more than I needed for my overnight stay. All I used was the vegetable broth (hospital supplied chicken broth and I am a vegan), protein powder (again, vegan alternate for hospital's non-vegan version), clean clothes to wear home, phone/charger, my glasses (I usually wear contacts) and lip balm which was so useful when I was unable to take in any liquids.
I didn't take anything other than the clothes on my back and my phone/charger. Figured the hospital provides for all my other basic needs and it was only 2-3 days so I just went with the flow. Ironically I had complications so I was actually there for almost two weeks. My husband brought me comfy clothes to wear and some books.
