One month check-up

I just got back from meeting with my surgeon on my one month post-op check in.  Kinda bummed since I haven't lost any weight since Thursday but honestly, no biggy.  I know the ups and downs so I am not going to beat myself up over a stupid scale.  My pants are definitely more baggy and people have really started to comment on how they can tell I am losing.  That being said, someone please reassure me, eating gets easier.  I don't feel to great whenever I eat something.  Whether its soup or crock potted chicken, I always have some really painful, ummm I guess you would call them burps, that I sometimes think is my food coming back up.  Its crazy that after 38 years of my life, I hate eating right now.  For all of my life before now, it was such a wonderful part of my life.  But, now it scares me everytime I take a bite that I have chewed 50 times and feels like there is nothing even left yet somehow fills up my stomach and makes me feel sicks.

Also, can someone fill me in on the cool vernacular that I seem to be the only one who doesn't understand.  Like, what is VNS?  Whats Onederland?  I have pretty good ideas but would still rather have someone just tell me so I can enjoy your guy's posts even more.  Many thanks in advance.

How much are you eating?  What you're describing is something I only feel if I eat "just one more bite."  I weigh everything I eat and stick to no more than 2-3 ounces per meal.

Yeah, I understand.  I wish that was it.  I measure my food and rarely, since I just started eating food after a 4 week liquid post-op diet, is it above 2 oz at a time.  I know deep down its probably speed of eating more than anything but it's just so hard to go that slow.  I feel like I am eating at a snail's pace when I do eat but I am really gonna drag it out tonight and see if that helps.

You might try going down to 1 ounce and see what happens. (Sucks, I know, but it's worth a try.)

Probably exactly what I am gonna have to do.  I will give it a shot tonight.  I was just worried about getting all the protein in by not eating to much.  Tonight I am gonna try scrambled eggs with a little cheese.  We will see what 1oz of scrambled egg even looks like haha.

So your chewing enough are you waiting in between bites long enough.... and like said above try less start with 1 oz.... Also your not drinking before are you and not at least 30 mins after right.....

Also NSV " None surgical victory.  I believe " and onederland is when you get under 200 lbs....

Best of luck !!! :-)

ahhhh....ok, those terms make more sense now haha.  Thank you

I have been pretty impressed with myself when it comes to chewing as long as needed but I am def gonna try to focus on going slower.  I have only had two instances where I drank while I was eating and that was on accident.  I really do try to focus on that and it is so hard to remember when out to eat in large groups.  But, so far I think I would give myself a solid B+ when its comes to remembering.  If I haven't seemed grateful so far, I do really appreciate everyone's ideas.  That's why I go to this forum everyday.  Great people who are very helping.  Thank you all.

Your doing great don't be so hard on yourself.... just try to go slower in between bites... put the fork or spoon down between bites that helps also.... when I go out to eat the first thing I do it put my water in front of someone else this way I  don't forget. . After all this is all new so we have to relearn things !!!!! It will get better and easier as time goes on trust me!!!! :-)

just curious how long did it take from the visit with your surgeon, having all your Medical Weight Management completed, did it take for insurance approval and surgery date?

I am probably not the one you want to speak too about that. I had a very long, very drawn out process to get approved. It took me 3 years to finally get approved. Three different times I lost the required weight to qualify only to have insurance say that it wasn't the right amount. They also, for the first two years said that they would not cover the sleeve. But, to their credit and as a testament to my determination, I fought and fought and finally got approved. I started the process in in 2011 and got approved in 2014.  Not sure that helps you but that's my story.
