Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Hi y'all...

So... I have an appointment with my PCP on Tuesday to be cleared for surgery and then I'll have my date.  Probably August 11.  (We're about to leave for Canada for 2 weeks, didn't really feel like being on a liquid diet during vacation.)

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis a few months ago and I wondered if anyone has any experience with the symptoms being reduced after VSG.  I'm guessing that just losing weight will help reduce the stress on my joints and therefore help the pain from RA.

Hi,

I'm sure you know RA is an autoimmune disease. I would bet that during this process the reduction/elimination of gluten and wheat based products will result in feeling better. Stay super hydrated, dehydration, while dangerous, also causes inflammation.

Good luck!

p.s. RA runs in my family, I'm not a quack! Lol

OK, I am newly diagnosed with RA so I don't have tons of knowledge yet.  I have done low Carb off and on for many years now and i thought I was crazy because within days after going back to eating carbs I would hurt a lot more.  Very interesting!

It has always been my habit to keep a large cup of water at hand so i am generally really well hydrated.  I don't drink cokes or juice.  I usually have one cup of coffee in the morning and then water or unsweetened iced tea all day.

I currently take Mobic but it doesn't do much, if anything.  Thanks for the info!

Well dang,

I never made that connection.  My joints have been bothering me all week... not a coincidence I went on a total carb bender this past weekend apparently.  Glad this was pointed out!

I have RA and had a VSG on 6/10/2014.  Honestly, I haven't seen much of a difference yet.  I still have the same stiffness and pain.  I have been off of all RA meds for the first time since I was 12 for the last month (1 week before surgery & 3 after were recommended by my surgeon).  Looking forward to getting back on those drugs...may even do it tomorrow.

VSG on 05/06/14

I also have RA and was sleeved 5/6. I'm down 50 lbs, and actually feel more pain, but that's mostly because I stopped taking my RA meds after surgery and am just now restarting them, 8 weeks later. I bet once my meds kick in again I will notice a difference. I have had a ton of nsv's such as crossing legs, more endurance, off blood pressure meds etc.

best of luck,

Renee

I have RA too.  I had my surgery on 05/20/2013.  I still have pain but it's manageable.  The downside, after my surgery, I had to give up all anti-inflammatories.  With that being said, I still wish I would have done it years ago.  Good luck!
