Hi there and good luck with your first appointment. It is good that you are trying to find out about shakes now as you will be drinking a lot of them after your surgery (and maybe before if you do a pre op diet.) I'm not that familiar with medifast but I'm pretty sure those are considered protein shakes. There are pre mixed ones and powders that you can buy and make your own. I swore by the RTD ones when I did my pre op diet but now I cant stand them. Some good places to shop for shakes are GNC, the vitamin shoppe, target, walmart, costco, and some websites like www.mybariatricpantry.com and www.nashuanutrition.com. You can also order samples from the websites which I would definitely reccommend. Try to find a few brands that you like.
I like the Premade drinks. just because I'm on the go a lot and for taking to work. My fave are the EAS. but I also like the special K ones they don't have as much protein so its a good one if you are getting That in with food but for in the beginning you will prov need to get something different. My But says stay under 200 calories over 10 grms of protein . Just make sure you read labels.
I have been using Isopure Zero Carb Vanilla Protein (1 Scoop) I buy at GNC and Click Mocha Espresso Protein (1 scoop) and I but that at my surgeons office. Both and most all proteins powers/RDT shakes are available online. If you google the name, many sites who sell it will come up. The most important thing is to make sure you get a good quality protein. Like a non-blended Whey Protein Isolate. When I am low on funds, I will use Body Fortress Whey Protein Isolate Vanilla or Chocolate, which is sold at Walmart for about 18-20ish a tub. Just try to make sure is a good quality, esp in the beginning :)
I make mine with unsweetened original Almond Milk and I use a Blender Bottles which I get from Amazon. They're super easy, dishwasherable, and keep your nose blocked so you don't have to smell the protein shake if the smell bothers you.

I swear by the Premier Protein ready made chocolate shakes - $24 for 18 at Costco. I think they have the least amount of funky aftertaste and aren't too sweet. But I have surgery in 4 days and hear your tastes will probably change. I like Unjury powder too (mixed with milk, with water I didn't like).
My last many cases of premier protein came all chunky and curdled :( Now I just stick with protein powder.
