Pain on my largest incision that wasn't there before??

I was sleeved July 11, 2014 and stopped taking prescription pain medicine about 1.5 weeks after surgery. I wore an abdominal binder religiously for two weeks, and now just wear it at night for extra support because I'm a side sleeper. I have noticed in the last few days that around my largest incision I get a sharp/shooting pain deep in my abdomen. It happens in certain positions, if I sit wrong or lay wrong. Also when I cough, sneeze, or laugh the same shooting pain happens. I know I'm still recovering, but this pain feels new. I should note that it does not hurt when I eat, and I feel fine in most positions. Why would I hurt worse now than I did a week after surgery? Is this normal? Did anyone else experience this? Or should I go have it checked out.

it is probably just a tight internal stitch that will fix it self ,

that said , your best calling your surgeon right now and checking with him/her to be safe they have someone on call 24/7

if you have a fever or puss coming from the wound go to the ER

Definitely no pus or swelling, it is an internal pain underneath that incision. Thank you for the response!

Hi there! I was actually sleeved the same exact day you were, and I'm feeling the same exact thing! My doctor said everything was normal and that it's just part of the healing process. Although I feel better hearing that someone else is feeling it too.

It's always best to inform your surgeon of new pain and I highly recommend you do this.  That said, I had the same thing.  It started about 3 weeks out and it was when I would twist, stretch, or exert that area (cough, sneeze, pick something off of the floor) at all.  It lasted a couple of weeks and then slowly abated to a twinge and then nothing.  So yes, I've experienced something like what you're talking about and it ended up being nothing but the healing process in my case.

Hi!  Just curious about the abdominal binder and is that something they give you in the hospital after surgery?  I'm recouping alone and this is a concern of mine for many reasons but the biggest being I have a paralyzed dachshund that has to be diapered 2x a day.  He weighs around 14 lbs and I put him on a baby changing table to take care of him.  I've been concerned about lifting him (and I am a side sleeper as well...years of snoring I guess!) and no one has ever mentioned a binder.  My surgery is scheduled for July 24th.  My sister will be here to help me thru the weekend but that's it as far as anyone helping me recouperate.

I asked my surgeon about a binder and he said not necessary.

Yes, they gave me one at the hospital, I woke up with it on in the recovery room. It has been my "crutch" since surgery. I was required to wear mine for one week except during showers of course! It helped me get through position changes and up and down motions. I was not able to sleep on my side (even with the binder) for the first few days! It was awful!! If they don't give you one I know I've seen them at CVS and Walgreens before.
