Night time snacking...ARGH!

I'm having a major issue with night time snacking lately. I don't know what it is, but as soon as the sun goes down I just want to EAT! Last night I really made a conscious effort to preoccupy myself to see if it was in my head - I drank a large glass of water, I took the dog for a long walk, etc. But when all that was done, I still wanted food. According to my fitness pal I had 103 grams of protein so it shouldn't be that I was actually hungry. Additionally, I drank about 108 ounces of water yesterday,

Any advice as to how I can stop this before it becomes a habit and I regain?

i will be of no assistance. I have had the same issues the past few nights. I do the same things that you are employing. The only thing that works is if i watch tv in the bedroom or basement b/c im too lazy at that point to get up and snack AND i there's no food allowed in those spaces LOL.

However, I usually find myself needing somethign sweet. So i buy sugar free candies and have 1. they take a while to suck down on and by that point by mind is usually occupied onto something else.

I use sugar-free popsicles to fill the craving.   I was NEVER an after-dinner snack person prior to surgery.  I don't know why it's become such a problem for me now

I sometimes have the same problem. What I did was make it part of my food plan. Also if you don't know if it's a head hunger eat something like celery, if the hunger goes away then you know it was real. Good luck!

For me, I do this but it is representing some underlying issue: stress, anxiety etc.  I'm working with my therapist to get through it.  It might not be about the food, but something else.

I'm trying meditation and journaling to get past it.

I am banded and am no help to you because I have the same problem.  It's not extreme, but I have this "need" to have something after dinner.  I am not hungry at all but I want something.  What I should have, I don't want.  What I want, I shouldn't have!  I did try to eat some greek yogurt to see if that would help.  I love the Dannon Lite and Fit Strawberry cheesecake flavor.  Good luck!

when I started the weight loss process, I knew that night time snacking would be my downfall.  So I time-shifted my meals to be later in the day.  I eat dinner at 7pm, and then I have my vitamins which I crush into a 1/2 cup of yogurt at 9pm.  I still struggle when my hubby brings out the humus and chips or the cashews.  But for the most part, I can hold off for dinner or my vitamin treat.

Good luck.  This is the hard part! but we can do it!

try having dinner later. works for me.  also have a list of acceptable evening snacks such as a handful of grapes, glass of skim milk, or a protein hot choc.   allow one of these per evening.

ask yourself if 2 ounces of tuna sounds good?  if yes, then have it. if no, then its head hunger and find other activities.     gl   diane

This is a struggle I face also. I have time shifted my meals till later in the day, planned a healthy evening snack daily, but sometimes I still have an issue even after I have had my planned snack. This doesn't happen every day, but too often. I am definitely not hungry, and it is not something I am proud of. I manage to stay "perfect" all day but 9 o clock hits and I need someone to lock the fridge.  I am going to talk to the psychologist when I go for my 18 month post op visit and see what she says.

Can you reschedule your meals so that your last meal of the day is eaten during the time you feel the urge to snack?
