Premier Protein Energy Bars

So, I am out of my Premier Protein drinks again and in my little town, the closest thing I can find with high protein levels are the protein bars by premier.  I bought some, they taste pretty decent all things considered but the carb level is 26g per bar.  That seems pretty high doesnt it?  I mean, aren't we supposed to try to stay below 40g per day?  I like the 30g of protein they provide but I am worried about that carb level.   I will be going to get more drinks this weekend (payday is friday) but until then, if I have two of these bars a day, am I gonna do some pretty bad damage or is a few days of increased carbs nto the end of the world?

Do the best you can, drink lots of water, and don't beat yourself up.

Thats interesting.  I was told 40g but that may be because I am still pretty new post-op.  I am about to 7 weeks out so maybe during that initial weight loss time, it's supposed to be a smaller amount.  I will have to give my nut a call.  Thanks for the replies everyone

You're not going to do any "damage" to yourself with having to resort to protein bars for a few days.  The only repercussion you may experience is a spike in carb-cravings because those "protein" bars should just be called candy bars.  Compare the carb stats to a regular candy bar - pretty much exactly the same!  If you can limit yourself to just one per day and eat other protein-dense foods like meat, fish, chicken, etc. you would do better.

I grew up in a small town and I understand the limitations you have on access to certain foods.  A few days of increased carbs (keep the rest of them low for the day if you can) is not going to be the end of the world.  But again, I wouldn't eat two of those things a day.  Eating a protein bar ALWAYS stopped my weight loss in its tracks for a few days.

I have to say I understand what you mean.  I weighed today after eating one yesterday and I gained two pounds.  I was only considering it because I have such a hard time getting the required amount of protein through food alone.  I tend to get sick when I eat.  I can try to make a normal protein shake as well, a whey protein since it's only for a few days.  I just liked that they each had 30g of protein so getting to a hundred, if I had two of them, was still doable.  Thank you for the advice :)

You can buy shakes online and have them shipped to you.

I'm very anti protein bar

that being said, forget about the carbs..

I'm wondering how many calories are in there?

as Tracy said..they really are just a glorified candy bar.

IMHO if you find yourself in a situation where you've run out again

Id get as much protein in as possible thru food and be low in your goals for those

couple days.

yeah, thats probably what I am going to have to do.  The caloric intake for premier protein bar is 280 with 60 calories coming from fat.  I rarely eat over 600 calories in a day so having two of these would have put me at 560.  Then with the two ounces of chicken breast for dinner, I still wouldve been near 600.  Guess I will just find my protein elsewhere
