Question About Pureed stage

When you have to eat pureed foods can you use a healthy choice meal, cook and puree?

I was told that as long as the nutritional value is there, then you can, as long as you can strain it out to remove any lumps of solid food!  One meal is probably more than you can eat in one setting.  I was searching for foods that can be pureed, yet still maintain their original taste.  I was told that Wendy's Chili is a great item to puree.  Has beef and beans that are both high in Protein and liquid to help the pureed process.  Not at the pureed stage yet, but of all the prep and post stuff, that the one period of time I am really not looking forward to all that much.  But after not having food for a while, it might be good!

Oh, okay. I'm having surgery on August 6th, so I'm no where even close to this stage just thought I'd ask.

Healthy choice meals tend to be pretty out of whack nutritionally from what I recall.  And pretty highly processed.  So while you could puree them, I'm not sure that it would be a nutritionally sound plan.

That's what I thought. I've never really eaten them no less looked at the label. Thanks!!

Do plan on your first many grocery trips post-liquid diet taking FOREVER.  OMG, it's ridiculous.  Some years ago I found out that I've got fructose malabsorption which means I can't have high fructose corn syrup (among a few other things) so I had to start reading labels very carefully.  And it takes forever until you get to know which products are safe.  Post-VSG is the same way.  Lots and lots of time reading labels until you get to know what's okay and what's not.  So don't plan for any "quick" grocery trips for the first few months after surgery :D

We learned in one of our classes that frozen meals like Healthy Choice/Lean Cuisine/etc. are extremely high in sodium. Anything over 20% DV sodium should be avoided, as it can cause you to retain water, gain weight, dehydrate, etc. None of which would be fun in the pureed stage.

That comment about the Wendy's Chili is a great idea! Any other ideas?

The Atkins frozen meals are actually a good choice for us.  Some Healthy Choice meals are low in carbs and sugar, but you need to read the label.  I made my own chili, soups, and stews so I could control the fats, carbs and salt.  The rest of the family had it as is and I pureed mine.  That stage only lasted a few weeks.
