Getting your protein/water in?
I know this question has been asked before, but I can't seem to find one that asks the way I need it. I'm 3 days post op and how on earth am I supposed to get my protein and liquids in. My plan gives me a basic day menu and it calls for 4 oz of protein supplement for breakfast, 4oz of skim milk for am snack, cream soup strained for lunch, 4 oz of protein for snack, soup for supper and another protein for after supper snack. For some reason I remember my NUT at our education class say something about putting a whole scoop of the protein powder in 4 oz of milk. Even though it says 1 scoop for 8 oz of milk that way you get the all the protein for it. Did I dream this or does anyone else do this.
Regardless how do you get 60+ grams of protein AND 60+ oz of liquids? Pre-op that sounded easy peasy....now? No idea!
I was told that it would take a while to get in the full amount of liquids that are required. That being said, my liquid diet plan calls for 3 cups of protein shakes and 3 cups of liquids separately each day. Also, I follow the instructions on my protein powder as far as liquid to mix ratio. I don't think I could drink it if it was that thick. I have one kind that is 2 scoops to 8 oz (so 1 to 4) and another that is 1 scoop to 6oz although I usually put more like 8oz (I use almond milk).
Your best bet is to give your NUT a call in the morning and get some clarification for the liquid phase so you know for sure and don't beat yourself up in the first few days. Good luck. :)
When I was in the liquid diet post-op, I would make up a double shake in the morning - 16 ounces of almond milk and 2 scoops of protein powder. I'd work on drinking that until I finished it, which took an hour or two. Then I'd switch to crystal light lemonade and sip, sip sip all day. Later on I'd have a cup of strained panera fresh onion soup (SO GOOD) and in the evening I'd have a single shake (8 ounces of almond milk and 1 scoop of protein powder). I was sipping on something all day - protein shakes, lemonade, or soup. At first I set my alarm to go off every 15 minutes so I would remember to sip, but I think I only needed to do that the first day home.
Making a shake extra thick sounds totally disgusting.

I'm still struggling myself I keep putting my premilee protein back I'm the fridge then go back to it and that seems to work they are 30 grams of protein and 11 Oz so 2 a day and I'm done....but the taste isn't great but I gotta do what I gotta do oh and put the unjury chocolate splendor in my coffee or homemade SF hot cocoa
I usually mixed my protein powder with extra liquid. Instead of 8 oz water, I mixed the syntrax nectars with 12-16, and same with my protein coffees. This helped my get down more liquid and made the shakes less unbearably sweet at the same time.
