400+ lbs? Vsg?
Actually the sleeve started out as the first stage of the two stage DS. They would make the sleeve so the high risk patient could lose enough to be healthy enough to have the second stage DS by pass. Now our center made my DD do a three week liquid diet as she was over bmi of 50 but they no longer do that.
was 415 when I went to my surgeon consult, the only advise he said due to my weight was not to do the lap band. I said that was fine cause I did not want that. He asked me which one I wanted the bypass or sleeve. I choose sleeve. Then I turned the tables and and him and asked if I too big for the sleeve and the doc said no. I told him I was worried that being over 400. He said alot of his patience are over 400.
Hi Robin,
I was 385 pounds when I started the weight loss surgery path (and 64 years old!). My surgeon asked me to lose 50 pounds before surgery, as they needed some space in the abdomen for the laparoscopic tools. My surgery was uneventful. I had little pain, and only had to stay in the hospital for one night. I did feel like I had the flu for about 3 days - probably from the anesthetic. But it was all-in-all easy.
The recovery, and getting used to my new tummy was more challenging. It was not fun, but manageable. It is so worth the effort. I lost 215 pounds in about 18 months, and I brought my BMI from 60 to 26. You do have to commit to following the program, but the WLS makes it possible.
best of luck,
Carol

Hi Robin,
At my highest weight I was 447. I am 9 months post surgery and still in weight loss mode. I currently weigh 155. I've lost 291.7 pounds total --(154 pounds lost pre-op. I was only required to lose 45, but I knew that every additional pound lost before surgery would make my post surgery journey so much easier.) I have lost 137.7 pounds since surgery day. For me, the VSG has been the perfect WLS. I love my Sleeve!!!

Hi Robin,
I am 46 years old (375 pound) and was very concerned about my weight, health, BMI, etc. as for me my weight kept going up everyday.. I had to make a decision about my health.. "If I didn't do it then I was on a road to destruction.. my health had gotten that bad!!! I had proven I couldn't do it on my own...
I was very afraid of the risk involved...But also the risk of weight 375 pounds was killing me also...
The Sleeve is less risk than the RNY because they have to reroute things.. with the Sleeve they just remove 85% of your stomach, and it is a less invasive surgery than RNY.. Less risk....
I had no idea which surgery the Dr. was going to do until I woke up and found out it was the sleeve..Due to a very large stomach hernia, they were unable to do the RNY surgery on me..
I am so very thankful that I had the sleeve instead of the RNY... I haven't been sick, am able to hold down everything, and my new stomach lets me know when to stop eating...
There wasn't much pain for me just soreness in my stomach area for 2 weeks.....
(Being honest here)....You may need someone to stay with you (maybe) for the first week of surgery to help assist you in the Bathroom, showering etc. Every person is different.. as for me I needed help...due to my stomach being so sore and was unable to bend etc...
It all has worked out so well for me.. I am so blessed I took this route...Wish I had done it sooner...
May the Lord bless you and help you to make up your mind..
