So my surgery is 8/29.. Yippy!!! So I started my pre-op today!..Going great so far!!!

So with the surgeon office I am with, (Kane Center out of IL) Their protocol is pure liquid diet for 2 weeks... 4-5 shakes a day for the 14 days, and they the day before the surgery clear liquids. So the recipes they gave me mentioned that I can blend the protein powder with fruit, or a teaspoon of peanut butter, or plain Greek yogurt to make my shakes.

However my question if I can only have liquid shakes, wouldn't added fruit or a banana add too much "bulk"?? What would be the difference of eating the fruit vs putting them in the shakes (no that I would) but I'm confused?? Cause my mom asked me that.. I said I hadn't thought of that?I said I was just following their recipes..... AAAHHHH I'm freaking out I do not want to mess up... and of course it's Friday night and they won't be open until Monday!

thanks for reading!!

Jess

I stuck to the shakes during my preop, but had the same question. My nutty nut said it's because its harder for patients to stop eating than it is to stop drinking. Apparently it's the smaller calories that helps but once we start eating it's to hard to stop at the severely low calorie count. My doc said it had a lot to do with low carbs - even said if I needed to cheat to eat a little deli meat - I didn't, and proudly wear my 'badge of honor' for making it through the preop diet and view it as a commitment to my determination.

Actually, I feel a million times better. It is amazing how much better I felt from day 2 to day 3 and then even from 3 to 4. I still am religiously taking my pain and nausea meds to be proactive, but overall, I really feel quite good! Thank you so much for asking. I am so glad to hear about your surgery being scheduled.  That is so very exciting!
