Starting 2 week
At the beginning of week 2 I was still on liquids. I was able to include yogurt and jello but other than that it was still protein shakes and water. I started puree 1.5 weeks post op and I'm just starting soft foods now (4 weeks post op). My plan doesn't call for any "regular" food until week 5. You should have been given a packet that has all of this laid out for you. If not, I would call your surgeons office and get a better understanding of what your specific instructions are.
My plan calls for the following
2weeks liquid diet but may include I snack daily such as yogurt, sugar free pudding, jello or egg beaters
then 2 weeks puréed stage
then 2 week soft/ ground food stage
then when all clear slowly back to eating anything within reason I'm told by week 7 I can slowly start back into everything
What does your surgeon's plan say? I'd do that.

Haven't had surgery yet, but I have a fear of rupturing and pulling of the sleeve seem, so I am going to stick to my plan. From what I have read, your stomach nerve endings get cut during the surgery and you can't really regulate fullness, so it is best to measure and stick to the surgon's plan. Good luck.

I had my surgery last Monday feeling great. My question is can I start regular food again instead if staying on purée? My thought is I thought u had to do liquids to purée so it stomach gets used to food again.
The nerve endings in your stomach have been severed and you aren't able to properly gauge when your stomach is full. I would highly advise AGAINST eating regular foods until your body has healed. Did your surgeon's office give you instructions on how to eat after surgery? My plan was:
- 2 weeks liquids
- 2 weeks pureed foods
- 2 weeks soft foods
If you're tempted to start eating regular food again so soon, maybe you should call your surgeon's office for advice. Good luck to you.

My surgery was the same day. Surgeons are different, and have different requirements. Call the office daily if you need to, but do what your surgeon says. You don't want to do anything to disrupt that staple line until it heals fully. My doc says "if you have to chew it, don't do it"! Good luck!

I won't think that after just 1 week solid food would be an option because you haven't had enough time to heal and you run the risk of tearing your staple lines or obstruction because your new opening into your small bowel isn't ready to deal with food of that consistency. I'd stick to the surgeons guideline to prevent causing yourself any unneeded medical distress. Most diets are 2 weeks fluids, 1 week puree, 1 week minced and then soft. I understand that you are probably very sick of fluids at this point but it really is for your own health and safety :-) Good-Luck

If it makes you feel any better my post op diet is
2 weeks liquids ONLY 4 weeks puree - no soft food or anything but pureed food.
I am just finishing up my 3rd week and have another 3 weeks to go off eating mush so you're not alone. I would follow exactly what your surgeon gave you.
The 2 weeks liquid was so much harder than the puree, I can handle the puree much better.
My Plan:
Day 1-10 Clear Liquids
Day 11-14 Full Liquids
WK 3-4 Puree Stage
WK 5-8 Soft Food Stage
WK 9-LIFE Regular Diet
