I didn't weigh in today!! Plus weight gain help!

and I don't know which is worse! I'm almost 6 weeks (Thursday) and I've been weighing in everyday since a week after surgery.  The scale has down for the most part, every once in a while it would stay the same or maybe go up a couple oz.  But the last two days its gone up, to the point that I've almost gained 2lbs! Ugh!! So I told myself, I was not going to beat myself up over it, but when it happened again for the third day yesterday, I said I was done! I wasn't going to weigh myself except for on Thursdays.  It's only been 6 hours since I would've weighed and I'm going crazy not knowing! I've got to learn to get over it!

So other than today (because I don't know!!) I've been on an upward trend....I'm only 5 weeks, I eat so little-How is it even possible that I'm gaining?? I get in 60oz of liquid (G2 or Poweraid Zero, have a hard time with water) plus 10-12oz of protein shake for a total of 70-72oz a day. Most days I'm getting between 60-70 grams of protein. What am I doing wrong??

It is probably just a normal fluctuation. Don't panic. I do this too. Could it be where you are at it your cycle?  Retaining fluids must be the reason. Just keep doing what you are doing and it works out.

TMI WARNING!!

I am on a pill that I'm not supposed to have a period. I only skipped the day of surgery with my pill and about a week and a half after surgery I started and have yet to completely stop. It was HEAVY for about 3 days then lightened up to a spotting here and there but enough to use things.

I take a similar pill.  Have you stopped taking it due to the bleeding?  If you haven't, I recommend that you stop and give your body time to reset.  I have to do this occasionally and it fixes the issue.  I stop taking it, bleed, wait until I bleed the following month, and then start taking the pill again as normal.

There's a study that clearly shows a normal 150 pound person's weight can vary by 4 pounds, seemingly randomly, due to water.  It has to do with the regular function of your kidney and bladder between highs and lows on water retention.

As a result.... don't sweat it.  Stay on plan and ride it out.

Laura - please listen to me very carefully:   YOU ARE NOT GAINING FAT!  Yes, the scale may say you are gaining "weight" but that isn't the same thing as gaining "fat".  It is physically IMPOSSIBLE for you to gain fat on what you are currently eating, OK?  You need to commit this information to memory and say it to yourself every time you even think of getting on the scale.  You are NOT getting fatter!

For lots of different reasons the body will hang on to water - stress, increased exercise, lack of sleep, hormones, weather.  You name it, the body responds by hanging onto water.  One gallon of water weighs 8 pounds   Here's my two cents worth of advice:

#1.  You must learn to get over the number on the scale.  You are letting it define who you are and how you're doing.  It is the worst indicator of how you are doing on this journey.  You're letting it dictate your happiness and inner peace.  That's not OK!

#2.  Up the water intake.  I know, seems counter-intuitive if you are retaining water.  But it works.  Try and get in 80 oz. of pure water each day (don't include shakes in this amount).

Keep on the path - you really are doing well!

An excellent answer. Very helpful. I just went through this and even though I *knew* I couldn't be gaining, it was messing with my mind terribly. I read and reread the info on the 3 week stall to get through my first hump. The scale finally moved yesterday and now i am back ahead. Now, I am committing this all to memory. Thanks for posting this!

I highly recommend that you only weigh yourself weekly if day to day fluctuations will drive you insane.  However, even more so I recommend checking out trendweight.com to track your weight - it's awesome and really helps me to focus on my trending weight instead of day to day stuff.
