Loose Skin in Men

Not that I am overly concerned with loose skin, but curious if fellow men could give me an idea of how much I could expect to have. I probably will not pursue plastics unless it just flat out gets in the way or causes medical issues. How do men typically fare?

I can only use my husband's situation as an example since he's dropped almost 100 lbs.  His arms and legs have held up pretty well but the torso area isn't faring quite so well.

With the amount you have to lose you just need to expect that it's going to be a lot of loose skin and that plastics may be in your future.  If that's the route you want to go.

It really depends. I lost 108 pounds and really didn't need it. It would have been a treat, but not a necessity in any way, shape or form. Another VSG guy I know with a much slighter build than mine lost about 130 pounds and absolutely HAD to have skin removal and LBL. The amount of excess skin on him was just wild. It's really genetics coupled with how long you've been obese.

I will say though, that I think men fare better in general than woman when it comes to the whole saggy skin issue. Could also be that we don't wear clothes that reveal quite so much either!

I think it varies just as much between men as women. I think the biggest difference is, men don't tend to get batwings the way women do.

Mine is better than most, but I've known some that lost much less than me and had a lot more excess skin. You really won't know until you're done.

I am down almost 90 lbs since surgery and 100 since January 1 and my arms and legs are doing fine but as mentioned above, my torso is not doing as well.  I did carry most of my weight in my torso and I had a pretty big gut.   We will see how things shake(or jiggle) out in a year.

I have lost 230lbs to date

i have some loose skin. I see atleast a pannulectomy in the future. More than likely a lower body lift.

If I was stopping here I'd probably say screw it and skip it. I'm shooting for another 100 though.

Some of it depends on how you carry the weight as well. I lost 160#'s once before and had some hanging under my arms, my thighs, and a bit in the pubic area. If you have a large over hanging stomach(which I didn't) it will most likely drop even further after losing weight. The good news with that scenario is many insurance companies will pay to get that removed. After a few years you may decide after all your hard work that you want plastics done, who knows? At least you'll be healthy.
