VGS Revision Question

I was banded a few years back.  Through no fault of my own, about two years ago, my band slipped and finally made me so terribly sick that I had it out about a year ago.  Its taken me this long to be ready physically and emotionally to think about a revision.  I thought of it being as big of a deal or as the original surgery but I'm hearing now that it is.  Who has had a revision in the Dallas area and how much did you pay.  I was not prepared to hear $16k!

That is what I paid in Chicago (actually a little bit more).  It was not a revision, but an original WLS.  I don't think revisions would be cheaper -- in fact they may tend to be a bit more b/c you are likely to have some scar tissues that the surgeon has to deal with.

It is expensive in the states.  (Boo!)

My VSG is going to cost 17k mainly because my high BMI and extended pre-op diet. But for me thats all inclusive.  I hear 12-20k is par for the course though.

I had the lap band in March of 2008.  I lost about 90 lbs and have kept off 70 of it...  I am waiting to hear if I am approved through my insurance for a revision to the sleeve and how much my out of pocket will be.... so far I have paid about $1,700 in procedures and doctor's appointments.  If approved, they will remove the band and do the sleeve at the same time.  Doesn't really answer your question I guess.... sorry.  If I am not approved through my insurance, I don't know what step I will take next.  My boyfriend saw a billboard in Ft. Worth (I think it was) that said Sleeve $4,999 (or something just under $5K).  I don't know who the Dr. is or anything about him.... I like my Dr. (Dr. Dyslin in Arlington) and there are reasons I selected him.... I'd be nervous going to someone because the price is right, but it may come down to that..... :/

Since your band is already out and has been for a year, I'm not sure it would be considered (price-wise) a revision.  Drs. Kim and Barker both advertise rates that are well below $10,000, although I don't know whether they're all-inclusive.

I had my lap band in 2009 it was removed in 2012 and I just had the sleeve 2 weeks ago it was considered a new surgery nt a revision because of the time lapse

I have not seen a bill yet but I am told 15 to 18 thousand and I had to  stay an extra night so I'm sure that will bring it up!

Good luck

Yes, it is pricey!  Mine was about $19K plus for additional pre-op requirements. My insurance specifically excludes WLS.  Hopefully someday more insurance companies will realize the financial benefit to them by covering WLS instead of paying to deal with all the co-morbid conditions.
