Preop diet fail!!

I'm on day 7 of my preop liquid diet. I have 4 shakes per day and 64+ oz of water/sugarfree jello, etc. The last 2-3 days I've been so hungry! My stomach won't stop growling and I feel nauseous when I'm really really hungry...so tonight I went to get my almond milk out of the fridge, saw the bowl of boiled eggs, and grabbed one. I couldn't get the shell off fast enough! I bit into it and it was like heaven! I feel horrible!!!! Did I just screw it all up? Do I have to call my surgeon and let him know I messed it up???

Please don't fret. I had surgery on 8/25/14 and I cheated about 6 times on the preop diet with no negative results. At least you ate an egg and not a sugar-filled carb. You'll be fine

Only fat and protein in hard boiled eggs.  Eggs are basically perfect food.  You not only didn't make a bad choice, you made a good choice.  Plan to eat a lot of eggs in the future (after you're cleared for solids again).  If you aren't clearing two a day minimum, you're doing it wrong.

I was allowed 1 small meal a day during preop diet. Some don't have a liquid preop. I know 2 people who never did it at all. Tho were supposed to!! No issues w surg for any.

Dont beat yourself up!!

I wasn't on a liquid diet at all. I just had to do a low-carb diet two weeks before surgery. I think the main idea of the pre-op diet is to cut your fat intake to shrink your liver. Which I did (lost 10lbs in the two weeks) so all was well.

I ate a half of slice of digornios pizza 3 days before my surgery. It was the same scenario as you. I just lost it for a second. My surgery went fine. It will be okay. Just remember your goal and why you are doing this.

I didn't even have a pre-op liquid diet (just nothing after 6pm the night before surgery).  I don't know how you people did it!!  I know I would have caved in very easily.  Do NOT beat yourself up...you are human.  xoxo

Thank you for all of the replies and encouragement. This board and it's members are the best!   I felt horrible last night...when my husband came home from work I told him about my "cave in" and I almost started crying. I really felt like a failure. Then I woke up and saw these words from you all and I feel so much better.  Today is a new day, and a new chance to make it right. I have one week till surgery and I CAN DO THIS!
