My surgery is on October 17th. I am now on my pre-op diet, which consists of four protein replacement shakes and one 500 calorie meal per day for 14 days. Well it's my third day in and the smell of this bacon is consuming me. I need help and encouragement. I can do this right? Do I need to run away from the house? Can I have breakfast for dinner if it's under 500 calories? Somebody slap me back to reality!!!

Nikki, I'm scheduled for surgery in December and I'm trying to cut back now. Just say to yourself that some time later you'll be able to have that piece of turkey bacon, just not yet. YOU CAN DO THIS. Keep in mind our goal, to get healthy. Good luck and hang-in-there!

You can do this! I am happy you get to have a 500 calorie meal per day. My15 days consisted of 5 protein shakes w/Carnation Instant Breakfast added and all the sf/ff liquids I could drink. Absolutely nothing to eat for those 15 days. Be strong and know that you can do it and this 14 days will be over before you know it!

I would not see why not or save some bacon for your dinner.  I could only have 5 shakes a day and no "real" food five years ago and only a few crunchy veggies when sleeved two years ago.  Talk about going thru hell

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

I really struggled with getting on track with my pre-op diet, but then I read about someone's liver getting in the way during surgery because they did not follow the doctor's plan. That really scared me into the reality that I need to do this to make sure that I have the best chances of being successful. I started a week late, but I've been on plan for 4 days. Tell your family to lay off the bacon while you suffer!

YOU ARE MY SURGERY BUDDY!!! I am also scheduled for October 17th! I'm on the end of my 3rd day of the 2 week pre-op diet. mine is very strict and only liquids. I will say that the first day was bad. the second day was worse, and today became a bit easier. I'm looking forward to a hopefully easier day tomorrow but nervous because its my first day at work since starting this diet. Good luck with everything... stay strong!!!
