Turning sadness into motivation

I am glad you are motivated by your sadness.  I think cutting carbs is a good idea.  I'd do away with the pasta, as well.  I'd allow the red meat, but just limit the quantity to 3 or 4 ounces per meal.

Are you logging your food intake with something like My Fitness Pal?  There is nothing like a log to help us stay honest.  Also, are you measuring your dense protein?  My program had me limit my proteins to 4 ounces per meal and 3 meals a day.  Otherwise the calories will be too high and make it hard to lose weight.

Also, I find that I retain water when I eat carbs, so if I have a slice of bread today, my weight will be up by 2 or 3 pounds tomorrow.  It will come off again in a few days, bu****er weight due to eating carbs may account for your gain this week.

best wishes,

Carol

Echoing the others.

  1. Cut out the pasta altogether. It's filler. Nothing more. It won't give you the nutrition you need and it spikes your blood sugar levels making you crave even more carbs.
  2. Permit yourself the red meat, but maybe try to limit the quantity to 5-6 oz (pre-op) and post-op bump that down as needed.
  3. You didn't mention it but make sure you are having pork, chicken and fish as well. Great sources of protein if cooked properly!
  4. Choose your snack foods carefully. Maybe look at protein-based ones? Cheese strings or Babybel? Sliced meats? Whole wheat crackers (now and then) with cheese? Pepperoni slices or sticks? Jerky?
  5. Track your food on My Fitness Pal. It's a great tool and you will learn a lot about your eating style.

Wishing you luck as you prepare for some upcoming, incredible changes!
