freshly sleeved (10/17) heartburn help
Hi everyone. I just started getting heartburn today so I called my surgeon and they suggested getting some omeprezol. (Prilosec). So I went and bought some and areas that for one I can't take it until morning, and for two, it could be up to 4 days before I get any relief. :( do you know if there is anything more fast acting that I can take tonight. I know time are out of the question for whatever reason, and I can't drink enough milk for it to really help.(my sleeve is still very very tight) HELP?!?!?
Prevacid is what works quickly for me.
A word of caution and I don't mean to scare you...be very careful with the reflux particularly if you are still taking pain medication. I was having bad reflux in the days after my surgery and was taking heavy doses of Percoset at night to help me sleep. At some point, probably while I was sleeping too soundly because of the Percoset, I aspirated on acid. A few days in, I was being rushed to the hospital in lung failure and spent the next three days in the hospital and six weeks recovering from pneumonia. The odds of aspiration pneumonia are slim but I'm here to tell you it really can happen! Good luck!

Unless your doc specifically forbade TUMS, you can take them. You can't use them as your calcium supplement, but they still work fine as an antacid. I used Pepcid a/c post-surgery for a few months. Never needed anything stronger. It'll take care of the immediate heartburn issue and last longer than TUMS.
