Post-Op Frustrations

So I had my sleeve done a week ago today (YAY!) And I've recovered pretty quickly, not feeling too much pain anymore. I'm frustrated though when it comes to eating. I'm so incredibly sick of protein drinks, and broth, and yogurt, and jello. Everything (minus the boring, bland broth) is sweet. I'd rather not eat then have to keep eating sweet stuff which I know I can't do. I'm just so frustrated and it's only a week out, not sure how i'm going to live off this stuff for 2 more weeks!

Anyone else struggle with this? Any suggestions? Thanks!!

If your plan allows, I found that strained cream soups were a lifesaver. As long as there are not bits in there, they are fine. You can add unflavored protein powder or I prefer 1/3 cup of non-fact dry milk.

if you are on yogurt - you should be able to do strained cream soup.  also, I ate strained miso soup as well.

if you are on pureed foods - try pureed cottage cheese (or ricotta) with some buffalo sauce or other savory flavoring you like.

refried beans with taco sauce and sour cream to thin it out is yummy too.

99.9% of post-ops feel the same frustration -- it's not fun -- but necessary.  Just pull-up your boot straps and hang tough.  If you're on liquids, stick to liquids -- don't fast forward to pureed food without your doctor's approval.

I hear ya!! I'm 8 days out and feeling very restricted and frustrated.  The head hunger is awful.  It does seem like it will be forever until we start the pureed stage but as they say this is part of the "journey"....not easy but I'm sure we can do it.  Tonight I had some butternut squash soup and added a little water to thin it out.  It didn't satisfy the need to chew food but it was very tasty.  Good Luck!

I am in my third week of my post-op liquid diet.  I am counting down the days until I can try puree foods.

I feel you on the sick of protein shakes and sweet stuff.  I've been doing a lot of creamy soups from Imagine and Pacific Organic Foods.  I find them at Whole Foods and my local grocers.  I add either Unjury chicken flavoured protein or Unjury unflavored protein to it.  The cashew Carrot Ginger soup is my new favorite.  Savory, spicy (but not too much), and a wonderful change from chocolate and vanilla protein shakes.
