Struggling really hard with the liquid diet! I need encouragement!
So I am totally struggling right now!! I have been on my pre-op liquid diet since Tuesday 11/11 and I have done really well.....so far! The protein shakes I have to use (Unjury) are ok but they have this really nasty aftertaste so it's been hard. I have to drink 4 of those nasty shakes per day....yuck! I can also have unsweetened applesauce, plain cream of wheat with artificial sweetener, light yogurt and tomato juice. None of which is all that good to me. I am just ready to toss in the towel! This is so much harder than I thought it would be. I know I only have 5 days left but it's like all my will power is now gone with me being so close to the finish line, I am having a hard time pulling this together and that makes me so sad because I feel like I put so much into this.....Ok so I guess I am done whining. I just really want a nice piece of grilled Salmon, some nice roasted veggies, and a glass of wine.
This is absolutely the hardest part! Keep at it and you'll be glad you did. You're doing a great job (and I promise the suffering is only temporary!)
I've been doing the liquids since then too. However I have to do the new direction brand. I also found a protein shake at Walmart and I believe it has just as much protein in it as unjury called pure protein and both my husband and myself tried it and it is really very good. I got vanilla but I am going to get the other flavors after surgery. I am doing great on the liquids but I find that I can have 2 soups a day and 1 shake only because the shake has artificial sugar and that kills my stomach. If you got the vanilla you can also add flavoring to it. I tried rum extract and vanilla it tastes like eggnog. And another time some maple extract. The last one I tried was adding a little pumpkin pie spice to it and it was the best one but I like pumpkin. Good luck.
Why do you have to use Unjury? There are other protein shakes that you might like better with the same nutritional value.
Sadly, the liquid diet just sucks. Keep your eye on the prize and tough it out. You'll get there!

Thank Gwen, I have to use Unjury because my doctor and my NUT instructed me to use only Unjury. It is what they recommend because the protein is so good in it?? So I am doing what my doctor and NUT has instructed...following the plan. Thank you for the encouragement I knew it was going to be hard going in but wow, this is really, really tough.
Interesting. There are certainly other protein drinks that are just as good, if not better.

I started on Wednesday 11/12. It's been hard but mainly because I cannot seem to get all 4 shakes in everyday. My doctors requires us to use New Direction protein powder. I got Chocolate, Mocha and Vanilla. I haven't tried the vanilla yet, the mocha is ok in coffee if I only use 1/2 the package, and the chocolate is tolerable if I use 9 oz skim milk and 9 oz water to dilute it.
WE CAN DO THIS!!! The hardest part for me is trying to figure out what my family is going to eat. I'm not really hungry, I just crave food.
Thanks Dora, I think I feel the same way I am not really hungry....now becuase when I started this I was starving! but now I just crave food! I will keep at it, I guess I just needed to whine a little bit....can I have some cheese with my whine???
LOL...Is cheese on your pre-op diet? If so, I got jipped!
I was hungry too at first. I actually got mad at my 15 year old daughter because she wanted to make spaghetti a few days into my pre-op diet. As of right now I am doing ok with most things...as long as I don't have to drive past my favorite deli we will be fine...haha!
I don't think you were whining. Sometimes it's nice to say this is how I'm feeling and to know that others are going through it or have already gotten through to the other side of it and survived.
