I'm not asking or expecting anyone to change but a little consideration would be nice.

I wouldn't give an alcoholic a big ol bottle of booze as a gift.. or give a crack head an 8-ball .. jus sayin :)

First, don't get me wrong.... I'm on your side.

There are a couple of truths here that are pretty real as I know them.

It gets worse......

Once you lose the weight, people think/assume you are "cured".... And in the same breath some WLS patients think they are cured from obesity after WLS and significant WL.

Generally speaking losing the weight is much easier than maintaining a weight.

And even reformed substance abusers need to learn to survive in a world surrounded by whatever their particular vice is......

Enjoy the holiday!

No crack, no booze, no fudge or cookies.  However, I think any and all gift is a result of consideration.

I would concur .. except when the gift is from a member of my family who lives with me and knows first hand the demons I've had to fight.

I  understand having zero expectations of people outside my home, they don't know me.. but my mother? who lives with me.. who attends every wl appointment with me, who is my support person .. yes, sorry I do expect more from her.

It's was a rote gift .. I'm not upset with her, I handled it without hurting feelings.

That is a special cir****tance which also means you need to be "on guard" for other potential hazards with her....

You know whats up... keep the path !

I have to agree.  It's our struggle.  I also received a number of sugary sweets as gifts.  I didn't get upset with anyone as I recognize they don't understand and I don't expect them too.  A lot of times people just don't really even think about it.  My strive for health is not on the forefront of their mind like it is mine.  I'm just thankful they thought of me and I can pass on their sugary goodness to others.

If any of the gifts came in the form of a gift card you can trade them in online for Walmart GC's I had a few bumping around my purse for a year and traded them in they took $2 something off the face value but I figured I can use it for toilet paper and paper towels... better than sitting there. http://walmart.cardcash.com

They have coinstar machines that do it too.
