SLIP UP ALERT!

Oops....

Slipped up and had a piece of chocolate.

It was nice. But not as nice as pre op.

Just a small chunk was enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. Not a whole bag of mini snickers like before.

I know, I can't have treats all the time, but I considered it a reward for my progress.

Should I call a therapist? LOL

I think I'll be fine.

Yes, do see a therapist.

One piece of chocolate isn't the end of the world. But using food as a reward is a major red flag, especially this close to surgery. And the fact that you are amused by the thought of therapy is another problem.

Wow! You lost 100 pounds and treated yourself with a small piece (not binge level) of chocolate. I say good for you. You obviously have this under control. No reason to slap you around for this. :)

Keep up the exceptional work and don't let the grumps get you down.

We are all on our own journey.

I am still pre-op but I did have to go to counseling before my surgery as I'm sure many others did. One thing she stressed to me was not to get so hung up on the fact that I can't have this and I can't have that. She said that I can still have a piece of cake every once in a while, or a piece of candy. Just make sure it is few and far between and it is a minimal amount. She said that there was no need to sacrifice going out to eat with friends just because I had WLS. Just make better choices. This is a lifestyle change, and part of most people's lifestyle is food. It's all about making better choices. So why not have a piece of chocolate every once in a while after you have met your goal?

As I wrote above, it's not the chocolate that's the big issue. it's having our heads screwed on straight that is much more important. When you start to rationalize food choices, saying you "deserve" to eat chocolate, or you've "earned" it, or because you are sad, or had a bad day at work, etc, that's a major tipping point for bad eating choices. A huge red flag.

And to compound that by making light of therapy is bad for the OP, and disrespectful and condescending to those *****cognize they DO need therapy.

The chocolate, or cake, or whatever is not the point. Attitude and behavior is everything in this struggle.

Be careful and vigilant.  Watch that you are not starting your old or should I say my old way of thinking.  Today one piece tomorrow two and so on. Just be mindful and if you need talk to someone do so. Good luck! Having said that we each work out own programs to the best of our ability just be mindful.
