2 days post op - hunger pains? heartburn?

Hello again! my surgery was on 2/12/15 and it went well. I am home now and I am having a bit of pain. This is to be expected.  I can tell when I take too big of a sip because my new stomach hurts. Sometimes though I  feel what I consider hunger pains or a heartburn feeling in my new stomach. It hurts for less than 5 seconds then goes away. Almost like a hunger pain or if I have to burp. Has anyone experienced this? All advice is appreciated!

Many of us experience this post-op and many of us take a PPI, at least for a while, after surgery.  Are you taking a PPI such as prilosec or nexium?  Stomach acid can feel like hunger pangs, so it's good to take one for a number of reasons!

Hi Gwen. Yes I am taking the prescription protonic that my doc said was ok. I remember him telling me that your new stomach has to get used to not producing so much acid but for those few seconds it hurts quite a bit. Do you remember your 'hunger pains' hurting a lot at first?

You might need a higher dosage for the first few weeks - it's worth asking your surgeon about if you're still getting feelings of breakthrough acid or hunger.  

I don't remember feeling hunger pangs at all right out of surgery, but I did have the feeling of, "oh my god, if my stomach would only just grumble I'd feel so much better right now."  What a strange sensation that was!!
