Hello everyone, so I am 2 days away from bring 1 month out and I have started chewing gum. It helps me burp!!! My surgeon never said anything one way or the other about gum, so I am loving it up, but I know lots of people say they can't chew it. Has anyone had any problems with chewing gum?

As long as you don't swallow it, you should be fine.  For some people, gum can increase cravings though.  So be aware!

There was a famous "starvation" study done back in the 1940s. The participants ate ONLY what they were given, and calories were tightly controlled. The only leeway the subjects had is they could have as much black coffee and gum as they wanted. Some participants chewed 40 packs of gum a day.

My surgeon wrote a prescription for the hospital to give me chewing gum after surgery! She said it would help get things moving in my stomach. I'm now 4 months post-op and no longer chew gum, but I certainly enjoyed a few minutes of chewing sugarless gum in the beginning! If it works, why not.

I used to be an avid gum chewer but since surgery I avoid it because it makes me want to eat.  I never chew it, ever.  I think it would be a bad trigger for me and it would prevent me from drinking the water that I need to be drinking on a daily basis.  That's just me.
