Hello everyone,

Sorry if this has been asked before but I will be revising from the band to the sleeve on July 8th and are getting nervous. During the preop visit on Friday I was told that I would have to take Pepcid complete twice a day for six months and the reason for it.

My question is does everyone have continuous heartburn with the sleeve after the adjustment period is over? The only time I had heartburn was if my band was too tight, never any other time so it is not a current issue for me.

Thanks, I just think I am freaking out as "the big day" gets closer LOL.

I have never had heartburn from my sleeve.  My program requires us to take Prilosec as a preventative measure for several months.  Now, they only have me taking it if I am going to have to take a 3 week course of Prednisone (severe Asthmatic).

I have not had heartburn burn but I did have acid the first month after surgery. My doctor had me taking 40mg Protonix for the first 2 months after surgery. I have not had any problems since I have stopped taking it (4 1/2 months since surgery).

I have continued problems with excess acid and I never had issues before surgery.  However, I am definitely in the minority from what I've read on here.

You just never know how it's going to play out for you personally.  I think I'll eventually be able to get off my PPI.  I'm only taking a half dose now and seem to do OK.  I have a good friend who had her sleeve for almost 2 years before she started having severe reflux issues.  She had to be revised to RNY a few months ago.

I went to my pre op today and my surgeon said lap banners can have more acid issues than first time sleevers this bummed me out I'm hoping I don't get bad reflux he said if I did I could get converted to rny but I don't want that :( he said it would probably be a few yrs if it happened ...I hope it doesn't...He also said I may have to ha e a drain...but said it was a slim chance because my band has been out for 7 months now

After surgery, I was bothered with heartburn (stomach acid) every 3 or 4 hours and especially at night. As time passed, it was less and less and now at 5 months on 7/4, it's only occassionly that I have it.
