2 days post-op

I had my VSG surgery/hiatal hernia repair Monday morning and today I woke up feeling pretty good after a good nights sleep. I got up during the night twice to pee, but other than that slept well! I'm working hard to get my liquids in. I feel like all I'm doing is focusing on drinking. That is tough since I used to just down an entire bottle of water at a time so I wouldn't have to think about it.

I can't believe I don't feel hungry. My stomach makes noises and feels like it is grumbling, but I don't feel hungry.

My stomach feels like I wa*****hed repeatedly, and my shoulders and neck are a little sensitive (from the stitches in the diaphragm to repair my hiatal hernia - the pain radiates to this area), but other than that, I really feel good. :)

I see my doctor next Tuesday for my post-op follow-up and he said I could expect to be down about 10 pounds already! Holy cow! I'm thinking I should weigh in once a week. (I have a bit of an addiction to the scale - trying to break that habit!)

Any tips or advice for this stage (newly post-op)? Open to hearing any tips you folks have!!

Thanks and so excited to be here on the loser's bench with so many of you!

I am glad to hear that you are recovering well!  I have my VSG next Thursday, so I am excited to watch your progress.  I am a scale addict as well, I really have to try to keep it at once a week or I get discouraged.  Especially when I have been eating good and getting exercise in, I expect instant results, and that just isn't how it works (unfortunately).  Good luck to you and I hope to see more posts from you soon!

Welcome home!  Best advice is to keep walking and keep sipping like it's your only job.  You'll be feeling better every day.

Welcome to the loser's bench!  It took me several hours to drink my first protein shake 2 days out. It gets a bit easier day by day. I just hit the 3 week mark and fluids go down much more quickly now. You're right though...for the first week the only focus is on trying to get those liquids in! Im still focused on trying to sip something frequently, but am now on soft foods and must wait 1/2 hour after eating to drink again. Be sure to keep walking around as much as possible; it definitely will help with the physical discomfort.

My advice is to be kind to yourself and take it easy!  Stick to your diet from your surgeon, walk and sip as much as possible :)

I've been awake all day, moved around a lot, drank, drank, drank and now am relaxing in my recliner. Still feeling great! Not hungry, but craving the flavor of buttered toast and a cheesy scrambled egg. LOL  Wondering how long people were on liquid diets for? My paperwork says 1-2 weeks (I'm hoping for only 1 week). Then pureed, then soft. Curious about what you all pureed too. Please share some ideas! (I like to plan ahead and know what is coming!)

I'm still on liquids now and my surgery was 08/03. I started full liquids last Saturday I can't wait to get done.
