Ok, the freak out has begun. In 8 days (less actually.. more like 7.5) I am going to go under the knife and be sleeved and for some reason I have chosen now to freak out. I can’t sleep, I’m stressed out which is causing my GERD to act up like crazy and give me constant heartburn. I don’t know what to do. I want this surgery, I have been preparing for it for a year, I am sure this is what I want. So why am I starting to have second thoughts? Why am I freaking out with each day that brings me closer and closer to my surgery date? And for heaven’s sake why can’t I sleep!!!??? I’m starting to wonder if I am making the wrong decision. Did everyone else go through this? Is this a normal feeling? Help and advice is needed!

I didn't go through this, but I also know that it's totally normal.  You're doing a big major serious thing!  It's really normal to feel worried and scared and anxious!  Take it easy, try to meditate or relax in other ways, take what you can for the heartburn.  Remember to breathe and spend some time reminding yourself of all the reasons you chose to do this in the first place.

You got this.

I didn't freak out but I sure was anxious.  I don't think I got much sleep the days before surgery.  I just had to tell myself it was ok not to sleep because I'd have plenty of time in the hospital and afterward for naps :)   I spent many nights on the internet researching a whole host of weird things not only about surgery but about food etc. I also made a list of all the things I was REALLY looking forward to doing as I became more healthy.  There was one moment of true panic and it was while they were prepping me for surgery but it didnt last long.  Feeling anxious is totally normal.  This is no small feat!  Best of luck and don't worry about not sleeping.  It will be over soon!

Try to remain calm! You got this. It's so worth it. Go out and find yourself some GOAL clothes(second hand, hand me downs). As a pre-op, I bought myself a cute sized 8(single digit was my goal) name brand pants. This kind that is unforgiving. I had it hanging on a hanger OUTSIDE of my closet for when I had moments like what you're going thru. And to my surprise, I got to the size 8 and beyond!!!

Klonopin. I keep it on hand for those days when my anxiety disorder acts up. Pre-surgery is an appropriately anxious, freak-out time. Ask your surgeon if he will prescribe a mild sedative to help you keep calm and get some sleep.
