Constipation

If there is one drawback of the sleeve for me, it is constipation.  Sorry for the TMI, but does anyone know of a good fiber supplement that can help with this?  Or do you have any tips regarding getting more fiber from food and still making my protein goals?  Thanks in advance for the info.

Yes, this is an issue. I take Restoralax daily. Miralax works, too. Both are safe and dissolve clear in water, coffee or juice. It's important to drink a glass of water after taking it.

My Dr said its safe to take on an ongoing, daily basis. You need to make sure you get at least 64 oz fluids daily, too.

I don't know how many post op months you are, but when I started eating more vegetables and salads all that got SO MUCH better! I also found if I ground almonds, flaxseed and sesame seeds into a fine powder and add 1 Tablespoon to my protein drink, WOW, amazing results!!!

I'm 2 1/2 years post op and I still need to take a laxative daily or I get constipated.  I take 1/2 dose of miralax every day and it does the trick.  If I miss a day, I'll know it!

Best of luck,

Carol

I take a gummy fiber supplement I got at Sams club. But I recently found some protein bars that have 20 grams of protein and 20 grams of fiber. They are from Julians Bakery and are paleo protein bars. So far I like the cinnamon roll one best. They aren't fantastic but I haven't found a protein bar I actually like yet. http://www.julianbakery.com/low-carb-foods-product/paleo-protein-bar-variety-pack-6-bars/

I found that a natural tea call Smooth Move works very well.

As a last resort, my doctor ordered Linzess.

this works very well. I am very pleased with the result.

Miralax is non habit forming. There are many generic versions, too. A daily dose of Colace works for me now, but during WL as new post op I had to use a daily "****tail" of 100mg Colace and 1 cap full of Miralax. Worked like a FREAKIN' CHARM!

I find that too much fiber tends to "bind me up" more than get things going. I also have found that the more water I drink the less of a problem constipation is.

Thank you all for your helpful hints.  I am 11 months post op and the constipation subsided for a while, but it is now back, despite the fact that I have a salad almost every day for lunch.  I will test out some of these to see which I like best.  Thanks again!

A good probiotic will help you become regular and will hep your entire digestive system! You can take it on an ongoing basis without it leading to dependency and decreased bowel function which can happen with some Laxatives.  Talk to your doctor before taking any laxative on an ongoing basis.
