Post op first week diet

I'm curious...someone told me the doctor told them to eat oatmeal 4 days out...I don't have that as an option on my list until week 5...does this seem early to anyone else?  I would think that would be way too heavy for first week.  Thoughts?

Boy, My sleeve would not have tolerated oatmeal that soon.  I also think it is too many carbs for me.  I am very sensitive to carbs. They trigger cravings for me, so I still don't eat oatmeal.  I know some people succeed just fine with a lot more carbs that I eat, so you'll have to see by trial and error what works for you.

I'd suggest following your surgeon's recommendation for what to eat.  Not all sleeves are the same, and there may be reasons for the various differences in programs.

best of luck with your weight loss journey

I'm with Carol on that one.  Best to check with your doctor or NUT.  I didn't try oatmeal until I was 1 year+ out.

It was on my diet one week out BUUUUTTTT it had to be really thin - almost like a thin cream soup and  protein added to it.

The best plan is to stick with your surgeon's plan, even though plans vary wildly from doctor to doctor. If you have any post-op complications, your surgeon will be able to make more accurate decisions about your care when he knows what food stage (pureed, soft, etc.) you're eating.

What psychoticparrot said! I was on soft solid foods Day 1 post-op, as per my clinic's program. All plans are vastly different.

For me oatmeal isn't allowed until maintenance however for the first two weeks post-op Cream of Wheat or Cream of Rice is allowed as long as it is thinned out.  After the initial two weeks, than it isn't allowed again until maintenance.

But I am learning that everyone's program is wildly different.

RNY on 08/13/14

Oatmeal was allowed on my plan, but then again so was pasta.  I took my dr's office advice to a certain point.  I made the decision to keep crackers, oatmeal, pasta, out of my diet.
