Anyone else had a hiatal hernia repair at same time of surgery?

I was sleeved On the 5th. I am doing better every day. No pain meds since day 5. Mostly my issue is being exhausted! Everything thing I do causes me to sweat and breath heavy. Hoping this slows down now that I'm done with the oral steroids and blood thinners. I had a large hiadial hernia repaired at the time of surgery and now reading up on it it seems like a major surgery in itself! I am curious if anyone else had this and if so, does it cause bigger problems getting liquids and puréed foods down? It's two swollen areas to try to get food to pass through. love to hear your experiences.

Thanks

Laura

my surgeon says he finds and repairs hernias at least 1/2 of his patients even if there not on the endoscope , I had a small one and it was fixed with no problems only adds a few minites to the surgery

I wasn sleeved on the 29th of September and also had a hiadial hernia repaired. I really haven't had any problems getting liquids down, but still working on pureed foods, which are becoming easier by the day.

I had a hernia repaired. My doctor said between 1/3 and 1/2 of his patients have a hernia repaired at WLS.

Since they are already in and moving your organs, there probably wasn't much of a difference in pain level.

Hernia repair is really common during WLS. Gallbladder removal is also frequently done at the same time, but not as often as hernia repair.

I had a hiatal hernia repair at the time of my sleeve on 7/30/15. I haven't had any issues with any liquid, or any food as long as I stay on my prescribed stages.

I had surgery with a huge umbilical hernia repair on August 3. They did the sleeve lapriscopicaly (?) and I have about a 6 inch cut from above my belly button (what used to be my belly button!) down. I was off pain meds during the day on day 4. It seems those of us who had both surgeries have less pain. Who would have guessed that? It does get better, but you need to make sure everything is healed inside and out before you try to eat anything but soft stuff (cottage cheese, yogurt, canned fruit, etc). It took about 5 weeks to feel like I was mostly healed and about 7 until all the incision sites were healed over. Be patient - you'll feel much better in a couple of weeks.

i had hiatal hernia repair during my vsg nearly 6 years ago. it has been great, no more reflux. and i did not find recovery very difficult. it was all laparoscopic so i didn't know the difference. diane
