My name is Aletha and Im a food addict, the sleeve did not take that from me. Iam 4 years out and had gained 40 pounds back when I decided to take my life back. I have started watching what I eat, back to drinking my protein drinks and exercising.. I have so far since the beginning of the year lost 14 pounds. I have started using all my tools, started back using my fitness pal and will start posting on here again and/or at least lurking:(  Just had to share and become accountable to my peers who know my struggle

Hi Aletha

Thank you so much for posting.  It's always great to have someone remind us, particularly people who haven't had WLS, that surgery doesn't fix our head issues with food.  We can't always "hope for the best" and expect to succeed.  It's still hard work.

I'm happy that you're back on track and wish you continued success!

I can relate with you. I'm almost 6 years out and I need to lose the 30 pounds that came back on me and need to get that under control. Not only I'm on OH I'm on MyFitnessPal too. It's good to know that you are back in control. You can send me a friend request here on OH and on MyFitnessPal too if you like too.

Hi Althea,

I know exactly how you feel.  March 16,2016 will make six years since my VSG in the last 2-1/2 years I have gained about 30 lbs.  Started last month with getting myself back into what I should be eating and so far have lost 7 lbs.  It's not easy with keeping your head into what you should be eating and what you really want to eat, but that's what got us overweight in the first place.  Just keep doing what you are doing and you can always message me here if you need someone to vent to.  Good luck with the weightloss and keeping on track.

Best, Toni

Hi Aletha. I am a food addict as well. I had the sleeve 3 years ago and have gained back 35 pounds of the 50 pounds I lost. I told myself I would never be here again and here I am. I knew this was only a tool and I had to change my habits but it is very hard. It was so easy to lose in the beginning. I am also a sugar addict . I hate myself for getting back here but I will get to reach my goals again.

I know there are people out there that say there is no such thing as a food addict but I know that Iam because IM a recovering cocaine addict. I have been clean for over 25 years!   And the hardest addiction I have ever had to beat is food addiction. With drugs, or alcohol or smoking it all begins with the first "hit" but with food you need to eat to live and every day I get a hit of my drug of choice.. Its a struggle but its one I will not stop fighting.
