Preop I was a stomach and side sleeper. How long after surgery until you could lie on your side? I am on post op day #5 and feeling pretty good!

You ought to be able to sleep on your side pretty soon if you feel good. For awhile I slept with a lot of pillows to sort of prop me up and make me feel like I was on my side.  But It got to be a pleasant habit and i still keep about three pillows, trading them around when one gets too warm. glad your surgery went well.  diane s

I forgot exactly when I was able to sleep on my side. I did experiment with pillows to help get me slowly to my side till I was able to sleep on my side without them. Did the same with my stomach. It felt great when I was finally able to sleep on my side/stomach again.

Only thing that kept me off my side were drains (different surgeries). Sleeping on your stomach would be brutal though.

Took me a couple of weeks to sleep on my side, I waited about a month to sleep on my stomach because when I tried before that I felt very uncomfortable. I hate sleeping on my back! Hope you can go back to normal sleeping soon!

I am 12 days post-op now. I was able to sleep on my sides comfortably after about 4 or 5 days. The last two nights I actually managed to sleep on my stomach for a few hours, but definitely not all night.

I was able to sleep on my side almost as soon as I came home with my body pillow.  I still havent been able to sleep on my stomach again since surgery.

I've always slept on my back and my sides and without noticing a couple of days after surgery I ended up on my side and nothing happened.  I think you can do it when you feel comfortable unless your doctor has said otherwise.

I had surgery 2 weeks ago (tomorrow) and I just started being able to sleep on my side. I had a hiatal hernia repair at the time of surgery and for some reason when I was on my side I had discomfort from my hernia repair not from my incisions or sleeve.
